POSITION DETAILS

The Department of Speech Language and Hearing Science seeks an Assistant to HEO for the Speech and Hearing Center for the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences who is bilingual with spoken and written proficiency in English and Spanish for Summer 2024. This position will report directly to the Director of the Speech and Hearing Center. Candidates must have a strong commitment to providing administrative support across the undergraduate and graduate programs in the Speech and Hearing Clinic. The Speech and Language has over “300” undergraduate and “100” graduate majors that come to the clinic for experiential learning.

The Lehman College Speech and Hearing Center has a long-standing tradition, fifty plus years of service to the surrounding communities in the NYC Metropolitan area. Student Clinicians provide quality services that are empirically driven, clinically significant, and evidence-based under the supervision of speech-language pathologists and audiologists who are licensed by NYS and certified by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).

Diagnostic and intervention services are provided to children and adults across the lifespan in need of habilitation or rehabilitation in the areas of speech, language, communication, fluency, voice, accent management, feeding, reading, and written language disorders.

Responsibilities to include:

  • Respond to phone, email and in-person requests for services and assist with community outreach to ensure all client openings across the specialty clinical and diagnostic practicum sections are appropriately filled and client paperwork is complete

  • Engage with clients with communication disorders and their families in a warm, compassionate manner using disability affirming practices

  • Maintain all confidential and HIPAA compliant TEAMS that are assigned to the Speech and Hearing Center. This includes managing clinical educator, student clinician folders as well as active and archived client files.

  • Engage with 22+ clinical educators to ensure that each has received schedules, room assignments, required student paperwork, calendars (SHC/client calendars/diagnostic calendars) every semester

  • Manage work orders, travel vouchers, and requisitions for supplies and other resources and assist in adhering to budget priorities for the Speech and Hearing Center. Assists in budget administration

  • Support undergraduate and graduate students to facilitate access to all Speech and Hearing Center resources

  • Enter student permissions for clinical courses

  • Supervise and train lower-level staff, student employees, volunteers, and/or interns, as appropriate. Interpret, apply, and explain SHC procedures and policies as directed.

  • Make recommendations for routine personnel matters affecting personnel, including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, assigning, scheduling.

  • Instruct and advise as appropriate and resolve problems as non-routine situations arise.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

A preferred candidate should have or be:

  • Bilingual with the ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish

  • Administrative experience in a non-profit and/or higher education organization

  • Knowledge of multiple administrative processes to include budget, finance, procurement

  • Evidence of professional interest and commitment to addressing the needs of underserved students and the population in general

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in organizational collaboration across a university setting

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

  • Ability to work in a setting where teamwork and cooperation are highly valued

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population

  • Ability to problem-solve

  • Proficiency in all MS applications including Word, TEAMS, FORMS, Excel and Adobe PDF suites.

  • Conducts internet and/or database research and performs basic systems queries to locate information related to department activities.

  • Maintains department fiscal plans and budgets; assists in budget administration and invoice processing.

  • Provides basic information, instructions, and materials as requested by students, faculty, and others who contact the department.

  • May supervise office staff and student workers.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary commensurate with education and experience, $54,268-$57,517.
