Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania - Bloomsburg Campus is currently seeking a Maintenance Repairman 2

Position Purpose

The incumbent performs skilled and semi-skilled work at the journeyman level in repairing and maintaining of related equipment. This position is considered an essential personnel position, and the employee will be required to report work in the event that the University is closed due to emergency situations.

Description of Duties

  • Locates and corrects power failures and short circuits. As well as replace bulbs, shades, switches, receptacles, light fixtures, electrical motors that require disconnecting and reconnecting power to the motor.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs valves, faucets, traps, sinks, wash bowls, shower faucets, flush valves, urinals, and toilets. Also will be responsible for unclogging blocked drain lines, replacing damaged drain lines and water lines.
  • Repairs desks, doors, drawers, shelves, screens, windows, and other carpentry related work as necessary
  • Repair, service, and perform preventive maintenance on natural gas boilers/furnaces, heating distribution systems, plumbing equipment, ventilating fans, air compressors, and HVAC systems and add Freon as necessary.
  • Repair, service, and perform preventive maintenance on stoves, freezers, fryers, and related kitchen appliances as necessary.
  • Repair masonry and concrete in and around buildings and walkways
  • Accomplish various fabrications from blueprints, sketches, written, and oral work orders.
  • Make repairs and adjustments to exercise equipment, pool cleaners, floor fans, floor carts, basketball backboards, electric curtains, and batting cages
  • Weld and braze metals using arc and acetylene welders
  • Performs related work as required. May assist work in other trades. Ex: snow and ice removal
  • Attend training courses as requested
  • Accomplish work in an orderly manner and clean work area upon completion of assignment. Inform supervisor of issues found that require repairing, provide a list of supplies used or materials that are needed.
  • Drive state vehicles to and from various worksites.

Minimum Requirements Profile

Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1; OR Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; OR Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

A PA Driver's license is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Incumbent of this position must be certified with the Environmental Protection Agency in the handling and recovery of refrigerants or obtain the required certifi ation within six (6) months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practices used in at least two of the buildings, electrical or mechanical trades.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved.
  • Skill in the care and use of tools and equipment used in trades involved.
  • Ability to detect defects in equipment and to make proper repairs or adjustments.
  • Ability to lead small group of semi-skilled workers.
  • Ability to interpret and work from pencil sketches and diagrams.
  • Ability to work from heights ex. ladders, lifts, bucket trucks
  • Sufficient physical strength to perform the lifting and moving of objects of approximately 50 pounds.

Essential Functions

  1. Sitting -- 10%; walking -- 50%; standing -- 40%
  2. Working indoors -- 75% and Outdoors -- 25%
  3. Frequent lifting of objects weighing less than 5 pounds
  4. Occasional lifting of objects weighing 25 pounds.
  5. Reaching for objects at, above and below shoulder
  6. Occasionally twisting at waist, and stretching to reach objects
  7. Basic math skills and reading skills including understanding written documents
  8. Writing skills in preparing and organizing documents
  9. Sensory skills, i.e. visual, hearing, and speaking
  10. Keyboard skills
