One Mighty Mill, LLC Quality Control Lead in Blauvelt, New York

Quality Control Lead, One Mighty Mill, LLC, Blauvelt, NY (Hybrid)Responsible for applying food science knowledge to support testing and quality control related to One Mighty Mill’s stone milled flour and flour-based products.Responsibilities:•Aid team in procurement plans and blending strategy to meet our flour specifications.•Refine daily wheat and flour testing procedures to optimize and ensure consistent our flour spec for each One Mighty Mill product.•Ensure wheat quality and flour quality through new harvests and new varieties using NIR, DoughLAB, external testing laboratories etc. Provide recommendations on flour performance based on testing.•Implement One Mighty Mill’s quality control testing protocol for finished products (flour, bagels, tortillas, pretzels, and bread) produced by our co-manufacturing partners.•Develop Quality and Food Safety Expectation manual for Co-Manufacturers. Design audit procedures and testing logs to ensure production is in line with specifications to ensure shelf life and product quality.•Coordinate with Co-Manufacturer's QA Department to maintain consistent product quality and regulatory compliance. Engage with co-manufacturer team to adapt baking processes to ensure product quality, consistency, and shelf life. Provide recommendations for product improvement.•Conduct regular sensory characteristic, shelf-life, and nutritional tests of production for current and future products by utilizing in house and external lab testing.•Engage with industry experts (Wheat Commissions, milling companies, universities) for continuous improvements in testing procedures, process, and product quality.• Lead all regulatory certifications (including SQF certifications, Organic Certifications, Non-GMO Compliance) associated with One Mighty Mill’s milling and finished products, production operation and provide guidance for certifications at other milling sites.•Respond to quality and production process related RFPs and other information requests for school systems (or their partners) and retail buyers or distributors.•Support One Mighty Mill’s head of R&D in new product development and existing product improvements (e.g. shelf-life improvements), and support COO in vetting new manufacturers.•Work effectively in a highly collaborative, fluid team environment, as we work toward One Mighty Mill’s mission to bring back local food systems that help our communities be healthy and thrive.•Continually apprise Senior Management of all related issues affecting food safety and food quality.•Aid team in designing content to educate children at partner school districts about the benefits of whole grains and healthy eating habits.Requirements:●Position requires either (i) Bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent foreign degree) in Agricultural Engineering, Food Science, or a closely related field and five (5) years of professional work experience as a Safe Quality Food Practitioner or closely-related position including experience in the field of food processing quality control or (ii) Master’s degree (or an equivalent foreign degree) in Agricultural Engineering, Food Science, or a closely related field and three (3) years of professional work as a Safe Quality Food Practitioner or closely-related position including experience in the field of food processing quality control.Must also have 3 years of experience (which can have been gained concurrently with the primary experience requirement above) working with the following:•Implementation of the FDA Code of Federal Regulations (7 CFR 21 CFR) and/or local health department requirements.•Food Safety, SQF (Safe Quality Food) code, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures).•Developing, implementing, and maintaining HACCP-HARPC based food safety programs and continuously evaluating Food Safety procedures in a food manufacturing and packaging setting.•Developing and implementing Quality Control programs using SPC tools and ISO 9001 based Quality Management Systems.•Organic handling requirements and leading organic certification audits.•Inspecting food processing areas to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and internal food safety and quality control programs.•Leading Food Laboratory management and performing shelf-life and microbial testing.Note: This is a hybrid position working from home and on site at One Mighty Mill in Blauvelt, NY; Nanuet, NY; and Northvale, NJ, with regular visits to the One Mighty Mill team in Greater Boston, MA. Must reside within commuting distance of Nanuet, NY and Northvale, NJ. Position requires 10-15% domestic travel to co-manufacturers, farmers, and milling sites in Hyde Park, MA and Sebastopol, CA.Salary is $117,166 per year for a 40-hour work week.
