Broome-Tioga BOCES School Social Worker - Virtual Learning Academy in Binghamton, New York
10-Month Position
Commencing September 2025
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
The BT BOCES Virtual Learning Academy is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and experienced Social Worker to provide support to students in grades 7-12. As a Social Worker, you will play a vital role in ensuring the mental health and well-being of our students, helping them navigate the challenges of virtual learning, and promoting a positive and supportive school environment. This will be a hybrid position. Key responsibilities include:
Provide counseling to students, addressing academic, social, and emotional challenges
Conduct assessments to identify students' needs and collaborate with teachers and parents to develop support plans
Offer crisis intervention and conflict resolution support as necessary.
Monitor and support the mental health and social-emotional development of students.
Provide referrals to community resources and outside agencies as needed.
Participate in meetings with parents, school staff, and other professionals to create holistic support for students
Develop and deliver social-emotional learning resources and activities tailored to the virtual learning environment
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student interactions and progress.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Job Qualifications
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
NYS Certification in School Social Work
Licensed Master Social Worker required
Experience working in a school setting (grades 7-12)
Strong knowledge of social-emotional learning and mental health resources
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Ability to foster strong relationships with students and families in a virtual environment
Familiarity with virtual learning platforms and technology tools preferred
Experience with providing counseling virtually preferred
Strong understanding of mental health issues, specifically with anxiety, school avoidance, educational systems, and community resources preferred
