Job Description

The Family Advocate Coordinator is responsible for the administration and coordinator of the Family and Community Partnerships functional area as well as coordinating volunteerism, male involvement, and adult literacy programming in a manner which meets or exceeds Performance standards

Education and Experience:

A minimum of a baccalaureate degree, preferably in Human Services or related field with at least 5 years related experience and/or training in human services.

Valid driver's license.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • In-Directly supervises 5-8 employees in the Family Community Partnership Component.

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Work as a team with Head Start Administrative Staff to achieve integration of all components of the Head Start Program and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

  2. Meet with Administrative Staff on a regular basis in order to foster communication and teamwork.

  3. Participate in staff hiring as appropriate.

  4. Cooperate with all components to make parent involvement/engagement a “total program effort".

  5. Cooperate with all components to plan programs and workshops for parents.

  6. Coordinate an orientation program for the purpose of introducing Head Start philosophy and goals to incoming parents.

  7. Cooperate with center staff in planning innovative and worthwhile programming for parents.

  8. Organize and oversee yearly parent involvement.

  9. Cooperate with and support component coordinators to oversee compliance with component plans, educational curriculum, and program philosophy.

  10. Work with Head Start Director to insure proper representation on Policy Council.

  11. Maintain relationships with appropriate community agencies in order to support and solicit parent and volunteer involvement.

  12. Plan for and organize volunteer efforts for Head Start.

  13. Work in community to collaborate and introduce outside programs to Head Start.

  14. Plan and organize literacy program for Head Start and coordinate with local agencies in the area.

  15. Maintain data for PIR (Program Information Report).

  16. Conduct annual self-assessment/PFCE Assessment.

  17. Assess, plan, conduct, and otherwise provide for Pre-service and In-service training in cooperation with other Administrative Staff.

  18. Orient new staff regarding component area.

  19. Plan, administer, and insure implementation of Family & Community Partnerships and Program Governance.

  20. Act as a resource person to all staff regarding Family & Community Partnerships component.

  21. Coordinate the parent conference procedure.

  22. Plan, coordinate and conduct specialized counseling and training programs for families.

  23. Work with Center Supervisor and appropriate staff in identifying social service needs of children and families at each center and in developing a service plan.

  24. Monitor accurateness and completeness of family records.

  25. Represent the program on community committees in an advocacy role on behalf of children and families in the County, as assigned by Head Start Director.

  26. Ensure that pertinent information regarding families is shared appropriately with other staff.

  27. Work with other agencies in order to meet needs of Head Start families and maintain current community resource list.

  28. Work with staff and families representing different cultures using a culturally competent and respectful perspective.

  29. Work with all functional areas in yearly file review process/training.

  30. Set up and implement yearly Parent Orientation event.

  31. Update yearly FA binder.

  32. Compile yearly Parent Meeting outline according to information provided by families.

  33. Compile yearly FA staff training outline.

  34. Provides assistance and support to the ERSEA/Nutrition manager as needed to ensure FCP workers are completing their ERSEA related responsibilities.

Required Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of Head Start philosophy and regulations helpful

  • Must pass physical, fingerprints and background check
