St. Luke's University Health Network Support Associate, Operating Room (Weekend Nights) in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

The Operating Room Support Associate provides support to the clinical staff. Responsible for providing transport of patients, participating in turnover of operating rooms, supply stocking, and cleaning/disinfecting duties within Surgical Services.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs daily cleaning of the Operating Room area, including but not limited to, interim (between operating room cases), terminal (end of day), and enhanced cleaning (monthly). Cleans vertical and horizontal surfaces that collect dust.

  • Performs project and area cleaning that may include but are not limited to stretchers, equipment, shelving, sinks, sub sterile rooms, and other areas within Surgical Services.

  • Performs frequent deep cleaning, which will include dusting, washing walls, equipment, floor maintenance.

  • Maintains knowledge of and utilizes appropriate cleaning supplies and chemicals according to department procedures.

  • Maintain floors within the department. Scrubs, mops, and buffs floors of the ORs, offices, hallways, and other areas as assigned. Maintains competency and skills to utilize floor cleaning equipment, including auto scrubbers and buffers.

  • Restocks supplies and linens.

  • Accepts and delivers specimens to appropriate laboratory/pathology/Blood Bank areas.

  • Keeps accurate records of work performed in accordance to department schedule and credentialing.

  • Assists with patient positioning and lifting as directed by the OR Team.

  • Provides patient transport to/from patient floors/procedural areas/Surgical Services area, utilizing two patient identifiers and performs necessary interventions to ensure patient comfort

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:

Must have the ability to sit for 2 hours per day, and up to 1 total consecutive hours. Must be able to stand for 10 total hours per day and up to 8 total consecutive hours. Must be able to walk 6 total hours per day and up to 10 total consecutive minutes. Must have the ability to frequently use fingers/hands for fingering and handling. Must have the ability to use upper extremities for frequent pushing of objects up to 10 pounds and occasional pushing of objects up to 75 pounds. Must have the ability to transport patients weighing up to 250 pounds via wheelchair, stretcher and/or bed. Must have the ability for frequent stooping and bending. Must have the ability for frequent reaching above the shoulder level. Must have the ability for touching as it relates to feeling objects by touching with the skin, particularly that of fingertips. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation, high and low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral vision.

EDUCATION:

High School graduate or equivalent preferred.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Demonstrated competencies specific to the operating room. BLS certification required.
