Mental Health Clinical Therapist (HELP Program)

These duties involve responsibility for providing intensive individual and group therapy for patients with emotional, social and related problems at the County Mental Health Clinic. The Mental Health Clinical Therapist also serves as a member of the clinic team working with other staff members in treating, diagnosing and planning treatment for patients. The work is performed under the direct supervision of the Clinical Services Director or his/her designee who may define and limit the work to be performed. Employees of this class also provide consultation services to other community agencies to assist them in understanding and dealing with individual cases. Does related work, as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a Master's Degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Art Therapy* (or related field such as Community Counseling). SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT AND CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT: Possession of a valid NYS driver's license. Possession of a valid NYS Department of Education license in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Art Therapy (or in a related field as defined above) or limited permit to practice Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Art Therapy within 30 days of hire.* Valid license must be obtained within 30 days of the expiration of the limited permit. If licensed outside of New York State to practice metal health therapy, you must gain reciprocity to practice within New York State. NOTE: Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.
