NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Engineer Trainee/Assistant Engineer in Avon, New York

Candidates can view vacancies and apply at statejobs.ny.gov Sample Duties/Responsibilities: Division of Air Resources (DAR) Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team of meteorologists and toxicologists to evaluate health impacts of air toxics and develop an effective pollution control strategy. Inspect a variety of facilities and on-road vehicles for compliance with air pollution control requirements. In the event of non-compliance, collect and prepare evidence for enforcement case development and potential legal action. Analyze emissions from greenhouse gas sources to identify projects that may disproportionately burden disadvantaged communities or interfere with the attainment of New Yorks greenhouse gas emission reduction requirements and assess any alternatives or mitigation measures proposed. Develop air permits that bind facilities to the engineering controls, monitoring requirements and work practices necessary to meet air quality standards. Permit engineering will include evaluation of facility equipment design, process operations and emission estimates. Investigate reports of potential air pollution events and answer technical questions from the public and other stakeholder groups. Support the development of statewide plans, regulations and monitoring systems needed to achieve long-term air quality and sustainability goals, including an economywide cap and invest program for greenhouse gases.
