UPMC Advanced Clinical Education Specialist in Altoona, Pennsylvania

Shape the Future of Nursing as an Advanced Clinical Education Specialist at UPMC Altoona!

Join our Education Department and make a meaningful impact by mentoring new hires and supporting unit-based education. This position will primarily consist of dayshift hours but will require flexibility to work earlier or later based on business needs.

As an Advanced Clinical Education Specialist, you’ll bring expert nursing knowledge and skills to achieve exceptional staff, patient, and organizational outcomes. Collaborate with the health care team, design impactful educational programs, and play a key role in shaping the delivery of outstanding nursing care.

Building Relationships & Communication

  • Foster positive working relationships through mentoring and clear, uplifting communication.

  • Build trust by valuing contributions, listening actively, and setting clear expectations.

  • Communicate ideas effectively across various platforms to engage and inform your audience.

Mentorship & Team Support

  • Mentor and guide new staff and preceptors to excel in their roles.

  • Act as a resource and consultant for patients, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams.

  • Support professional growth through coaching, feedback, and skills development.

Education & Training

  • Lead orientation and continuing education programs tailored to staff needs.

  • Develop and evaluate training based on learning priorities and resources.

  • Teach staff how to deliver exceptional patient care using nursing processes.

  • Drive initiatives to improve patient education and care delivery.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Spearhead hospital-wide projects and complex assignments.

  • Lead staff retention activities and professional development initiatives.

  • Chair committees and take on leadership roles in nursing education and service lines.

Quality Improvement & Research

  • Identify and pursue opportunities for quality improvement within the department.

  • Mentor staff on evidence-based practice, research, and project development.

  • Promote best practices through presentations, publications, and innovative problem-solving.

  • Analyze the impact of educational programs and evaluate new technologies.

Continuous Development

  • Embrace feedback to enhance knowledge, skills, and performance.

  • Stay certified and participate in professional and community organizations.

  • Take initiative, work independently, and prioritize department and organizational goals.

  • MSN or Masters in related field; if Masters in related field required, BSN required

  • Doctorate preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience; ICU experience is strongly preferred.

  • Relevant teaching experience

  • Leadership and project management experience preferred

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse in practicing state.*

  • UPMC approved certification, if required.

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Act 34

*Current licensure either in the state where the facility is located or, if the facility is in a state covered by the multistate Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) agreement, a multistate license issued by a participating NLC state. Hires and current employees working on an out-of-state NLC license who later change their residency to the state where the facility is also located will have 60 days upon changing their residency to apply for licensure within that state.
