PPL Corporation IT Budget Analyst in Allentown, Pennsylvania

Overview

This position will report in person on a hybrid schedule and may be based out of the PPL Corporate offices located in Louisville, KY or Allentown, PA.

Under general direction, the IT Budget Analyst is responsible for analyzing accounting transactions, preparing journal entries, allocating costs using approved methodologies, preparing, and disseminating annual budgets, preparing both internal and external reporting and providing additional information as requested.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with IT to develop short-term and long-term financial business plans for both capital and operating expense. Applies accounting concepts to assist with IT budget creation and consolidation, including the allocation of budgets to appropriate business units and ensures budgets are coded to proper accounting.

  • Plans and coordinates/assists in the development of the annual operating plan for IT.

  • Assists with the development and completion of monthly internal and external reporting requirements.

  • Initiates analyses of cost data, locates sources of major variances, and requests explanation from appropriate functions/departments.

  • Performs varied and complex budgetary and/or financial calculations and estimations for management, other departments, auditors, and governmental agencies.

  • Prepares journal entries and/or financial calculations that require general knowledge of accounting principles and their application.

  • Performs day-to day accounting and budgeting functions, including project/task maintenance, project/task setup, expense coding error corrections, preparation of reports.

  • Reviews all assigned tasks to assure efficiency and cost effectiveness on a regular basis. Identifies opportunities for improvement.

  • Serves as an internal resource on affiliate transactions within IT. Collaborates with accounting on determining allocation methods and set-ups for charging.

  • Develops a working knowledge of the overall FERC Uniform System of Accounts, U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP), and accounting policies and procedures unique to the utility industry.

  • Assists with the completion and documentation of internal controls and recommends enhancements to such controls.

  • Assists with the enforcement and refinement of IT financial processes and procedures.

  • Provides financial information to other departments.

Qualifications

The IT Budget Analyst position may be hired at the level I, level II or level III role. The level offered will be determined by the successful candidate's background, education & experience.

Basic Qualifications

IT Budget Analyst I

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business-related field required.

  • 0-2 years of related experience.

  • Requires strong PC skills, including Excel, and aptitude for accounting information systems.

  • Must have current working knowledge of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP).

IT Budget Analyst II

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business-related field required.

  • 2-3 years of related experience.

  • Requires strong PC skills, including Excel, and aptitude for accounting information systems.

  • Must have current working knowledge of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP).

IT Budget Analyst III

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or business-related field required.

  • 5 years of related experience.

  • Requires strong PC skills, including Excel, and aptitude for accounting information systems.

  • Must have current working knowledge of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP).

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CMA certification.

  • Good interpersonal skills for communicating financial explanations and oral/written information to others, both within and outside the corporation.

  • Intercompany accounting and reporting experience desired.

  • Current working knowledge of accounting rules and regulations, including, SEC requirements, FERC requirements and other reporting requirements.

  • Experience with big data and database software.
