For provisional appointment, candidates must be a current New York State Education Department employee AND have at least one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Security Officer or Security Officer (Spanish Language). Provisional candidates must take the examination for Senior Security Officer when it is next offered, and must be reachable on the resulting eligible list to maintain employment. Internal SED candidates bidding to change their current shift should indicate their preferred shifts in order from most preferred to least when submitting their applications. Shifts will be awarded based on seniority as outlined in the NYSCOPBA contract. If current staff bid to change shifts, their current shift assignment will be backfilled.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) Office of Facilities and Business Services is seeking candidates for a Senior Security Officer position in the Education Building and/or Cultural Education Center. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:• Coordinate the activities of Security Officers;• Evaluate the performance of Security Officers and take any necessary corrective actions; • Advise Security Officers and local office managers on resolution of security-related problems; • Review log books of Security Officers on a weekly basis; • Maintains knowledge of applicable federal, State and local laws, rules and regulations governing the security operation; • Participates in local safety and health meetings;• Assign staff replacements to provide necessary coverage during vacations and other absences; and • Perform other duties at other Albany locations as needed.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent-permanent appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Candidates should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Candidates are required to possess a New York State Security Guard License at the time of hire. Continued employment as a Security Officer is dependent upon maintaining New York State Security Guard License. Failure to maintain New York State Security Guard License will result in removal from employment.
