Job Overview

The Power Generation & Storage (PGS) Program within NYSERDA’s Innovation and Research (I&R) Group focuses on accelerating the development and commercialization of innovative power generation and energy storage solutions including renewable energy, advanced nuclear, carbon capture and storage solutions, batteries and long-duration energy storage options. This project management role will play an integral part in designing, planning, developing and managing research, development, demonstration and commercialization projects withing the PGS domain focus on transforming the New York State power system in order to accelerate the decarbonization of the New York State grid.

Primary Responsibilities

Essential functions and duties include but are not limited to:

  • Identify market barriers and opportunities to/for building/industrial decarbonization through analysis, research, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Prioritize and translate identified barriers and opportunities to defined challenges (needs).

  • Develop solicitations (funding opportunities) to address the challenges and work with the team other NYSERDA departments in the approval and release of the solicitation.

  • Marketing of the solicitation to the targeted market audience

  • Identify a diverse set of qualified individuals to review proposal submissions and to make recommends on fundability.

  • Convene and document scoring committee reviews and recommendations.

  • Present and obtain approval from NYSERDA’s senior management to make awards recommended by the Team.

  • Negotiate a scope of work, budget, and schedule for the each awarded project.

  • Manage the internal review and approval process in contract each project.

  • Actively manage a broad range of technical projects, contractors, and budget with a clear focus on commercialization/adoption and risk management.

  • Collaborate with other internal and external department having related interest and goals.

  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of technology advancements, pending regulations and policies having a potential impact on the targeted focus area(s).

  • Represent NYSERDA at meetings and events with external stakeholders.

  • Contribute to a team culture of openness and collaboration.

  • Perform other tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Ability to demonstrate respect, equity and inclusive behavior and practices of a diverse workforce and community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Project Manager ($76,051-$127,474)

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years’ of relevant experience in managing innovation from concept to commercialization. A demonstrated record of success in setting strategy and successfully delivering services or solutions at scale or scope within business or government operating environments.

  • Project Manager II ($90,931-$127,474)

  • Bachelor's degree and 6 years’ of relevant experience in managing innovation from concept to commercialization. A demonstrated record of success in setting strategy and successfully delivering services or solutions at scale or scope within business or government operating environments.

  • Sr. Project Manager ($111,925-$141,439)

  • Bachelor's degree and 7 years’ of relevant experience in managing innovation from concept to commercialization. A demonstrated record of success in setting strategy and successfully delivering services or solutions at scale or scope within business or government operating environments with 2 years of supervisory experience.

  • Ability to perform all managerial and supervisory responsibilities with demonstrated experience fostering respect, diversity, equity, and inclusion across the workforce.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the competitive request for proposal process life cycles, including planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout.

  • Collaboration with technical and non-technical audiences, stakeholder, and decision makers

  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills including confidently and clearly presenting in front of different audiences with various backgrounds including executive audiences.

  • Strong program management skills including a track record of successfully managing external cross-functional consultants.

  • Demonstrated problem solving ability, an entrepreneurial edge, resourcefulness, adaptability, ability to surface insights and solutions.

  • Insight and understanding of NYSERDA programs across local government, business communities, and public sectors.

  • Project Manager: Master's degree and 4 years’ of relevant experience in managing innovation from concept to commercialization. a demonstrated record of success in setting strategy and successfully delivering services or solutions at scale or scope within business or government operating environments

  • Project Manager II: Master's degree and 5 years of relevant experience in managing innovation from concept to commercialization. a demonstrated record of success in setting strategy and successfully delivering services or solutions at scale or scope within business or government operating environments

  • Sr. Project Manager: Master's degree and 6 years of relevant experience in managing innovation from concept to commercialization. a demonstrated record of success in setting strategy and successfully delivering services or solutions at scale or scope within business or government operating environments including 2 years of supervisory experience.
