Peer Navigator - HIAP

Department: Program Services

Location: Albany, NY

Peer Navigator

Do you have past personal experience engaging hard to reach individuals in the community? Do you know individuals living with HIV who are uninsured or under insured? As part of the HIAP team, you can use those experiences to help engage and recruit clients living with HIV who are experiencing challenges in obtaining health insurance and accessing healthcare. The Peer Navigator will focus on conducting outreach in community locations, particularly in communities of color, identifying appropriate venues for recruitment, and supporting the clients and the HIAP team.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for an outgoing and engaging individual who has experience with conducting outreach in low income communities, engaging individuals impacted by stigma, and a strong ability to think outside the box to find those "hard to reach" individuals who lack the health insurance needed to access health care. This position requires documentation, time management, commitment, self-motivation, effective communication skills, and a passion for helping individuals living with HIV.

Successful candidates will be able to build trusting, professional relationships with clients, co-workers and external service providers. If you have strong interpersonal and community outreach skills, the Alliance for Positive Health would like to talk to you!

Job Duties:

  • Assist with targeted outreach in a 15 county region, including one-on-one outreach and tabling at events.

  • Assist with re-engaging hard to locate clients.

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Familiarity with the region-s health and human services

  • A valid, unrestricted driver-s license and a vehicle to travel to designated appointment sites within a multi-county region.

Other Details:

Non-exempt; part-time 16 hours per week. Position starts at $15/hour with generous time off. Must be flexible. Hours may include evenings and weekends.
