GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Dental Training Coordinator (Registered Dental Assistant) will be responsible for creating and implementing comprehensive training programs, conducting on-the-job training sessions, and assessing the progress of trainees in the dental department. Additionally, the Dental Training Coordinator will mentor new and tenured dental assistants to ensure they develop the necessary skills and knowledge to provide high-quality dental care.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement training programs for new dental assistants, covering both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

  • Conduct on-the-job training sessions, demonstrating proper dental procedures and techniques, including x-rays, as well as the EHR.

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to trainees, ensuring their understanding of dental principles, infection control, and ethical practices.

  • Assess the progress and competency of dental assistant trainees through regular evaluations and performance reviews in preparation for the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) exam.

  • Collaborate with the Dental Director, Practice Manager, Dentist and Hygienists to identify skill gaps and develop strategies to address them effectively.

  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in dentistry, equipment, and techniques to incorporate relevant information into the training programs.

  • Assist in creating training materials, manuals, and handouts to enhance the learning experience for dental assistant trainees.

  • Coordinate and schedule training sessions, ensuring trainees are assigned to experienced dental professionals for hands-on training.

  • Provide ongoing support to dental assistants, addressing questions, concerns, and providing guidance on best practices.

  • Collaborate with the hiring team and human resources to actively participate in the recruitment and selection process of dental assistant candidates.

  • Assist in the orientation of new dental assistants, familiarizing them with office protocols, policies, and procedures.

  • Demonstrates excellence in both internal and external customer service.

  • Understands and is able to effectively communicate HIPAA compliance, corporate compliance and client confidentiality.

  • Ensures and/or remains in compliance with local, state, and federal regulation, i.e. DHHS HRSA and NYSDOH, and all accreditation standards (e.g. Joint Commission and NCQA-PCMH).

  • Adheres to the National Patient Safety Goals as defined by the Joint Commission and Whitney M. Young Jr. Health Center.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Current license as Registered Dental Assistant in NYS. At least five (5) years dental assisting experience. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train and mentor individuals with varying levels of experience. Ability to create and deliver engaging training programs that accommodate different learning styles. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Prior training experience is a plus, as well as prior supervisory experience.

Salary range: $27.00 - $29.00 hourly
