SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital Patient Services Clerk 2 in Syracuse, New York

Job Summary:

Performs a wide variety of routine clerical duties in outpatient hospital/clinical settings where there is frequent contact with patients and their families (e.g., admissions; emergency room; billing; etc.) and/or perform more complex clerical activities which are complicated by a variety of procedures, and choices requiring independent decision making. Responsible for purchasing supplies and equipment for PMR sites as well as managing and issuing contract renewals.

Minimum Qualifications:

For consideration for this title, you must meet one of the following minimum qualifications:

NYS Department of Civil Service Eligible list or eligible for transfer

Or

Promotional:

You must be a qualified employee of the State University of New York and have had one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Hospital Patient Services Clerk 1 or as a Nursing Station Clerk 1

Or

Open Competitive (Non-competitive, NY HELPS) Qualifications:

Two years of full-time clerical experience in a health care setting; or two years of full-time secretarial experience in a health care setting; or two years of full-time patient care experience in a health care setting.

Schedule based on 40 hour work week. Monday-Friday Days

The NYS Department of Civil Service has expanded the NY HELPS Program. During this program, the NYS Civil Service Exam requirements are suspended for the Hospital Patient Services Clerk 2 title.

NY HELPS appointments may be temporary pending commissioner approval or permanent non-competitive based on candidate eligibility.
